Stay fit, Blog more...

This is my first Blog n as all bloggers out there have experienced, i had "The Question" haunting me for the past 3 days - WHAT DO I BLOG ABOUT???? I then decided to begin with something that’ll help people who spend most of the time staring at their 17" monitors, giving strenuous exercise to ONLY their fingers n complain of irritation in the eye, repeated headaches, neck pain…and the list goes on…..

I’d first like to give the 2 contradictory definitions of BLOG since this is my first step into the world of blogging….

For some, BLOG is nothing but a “Big load Of Gossip” where jobless people come n type in all their crap that no one listens to otherwise.

For the rest, its “Better Listings on Google”. I am sure it’s every bloggers’ dream that their blog comes in the 1st page of the Google search when the related query is typed on. This article is for those who come under the 2nd category to help them keep blogging healthily n for the rest those who think it’s just a place to gossip about, I’d suggest u to hear the talking that takes place when 4-5 women gather ;-) .

Well getting down to the point, let me begin by telling that we live in an electromagnetic chaos. It's called Electromagnetic Frequency (EMF) and Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR). Any small electrical appliance, including cellular phones and microwaves emits EMR. We have so many currents and waves going through our bodies. We are very susceptible to the electrical environment. It has been firmly established by scientists testing mobile phones, computers and all similar products that EMF and EMR disrupt the body’s cell growth mechanism, disturbing the brain, nervous and immune systems.

Did you know you should not sleep with your bed against a wall with active current? Shocked??? I am quite sure most walls in our homes have this. Your bed should be at least 4 feet away from those walls and away from plug in alarm clocks and appliances like night lights and fans etc. You can actually buy alternative health machines that emit the "good" waves and restore health. This is something that mainstream public is not aware of without individual research.

Computers emit these EMFs too. If you are a person spending too much time in front of a computer, I would recommend an Electromagnetic Chaos Eliminator (worn as a pendant, called Q Link.More on Q-link @: http://www.personal-wellness-consultant.com/electromagnetic-chaos-eliminator.html ) or standing on the earth barefoot for 20 minutes each day to discharge this negative energy. I know this sounds a little crazy or stupid, but do a little research and try it for yourself!!! Another thing I don't think people think about is, if you are sitting for hours in front of a computer all day, you are NOT moving and keeping your blood circulation going to your organs and legs. Do you get tired often? Take frequent breaks, go outside, run up the stairs instead of using the elevator at work, breathe deeply, do a little stretching or yoga, get your body moving and oxygenate your brain cells. If you spend all day staring at a computer screen, you may be at risk for Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

CVS Symptoms: Dry, red, or burning eyes; blurred or double vision; trouble in focusing; difficulty in distinguishing colors; sensitivity to light; and even pain in the neck or back.

Remedy: To overcome CVS, keep your monitor about 2 feet away from you and six inches below eye level, and be sure it's directly in front of you to minimize eye movement. Adjust lighting to remove any glare or reflections. You can also adjust the brightness on your monitor to ease eyestrain. Even simple steps can help, like looking away from your monitor every 20 or 30 minutes and focusing on something farther away.

Apart from the ill effects from the computer side, there are some measures that every single person sitting in front of a computer has to follow i.e. “The Posture”. Most of the people working in IT companies complain about pain in the back, neck, limbs and put the blame on the company saying the “work load” is too much to handle. Though ‘m still a student, I feel that it’s the posture that they sit in makes them more tiring and uncomfortable. I agree that the work load also plays a role here but this can be easily overcome (will give a detailed description about handling work load in my next blog).

Here are some Tips one has to follow while using a computer…

1.Support your back: The backrest should fit into the natural curve of your lower back, filling in the space between your back and the back of the chair.

2.Comfortable leg postures: Clean away items from your legs to allow comfortable leg positions and movement. Feet should be flat on the floor.

3.Comfortable shoulder and arm postures: Place your keyboard and mouse at the same height; these should be at about elbow level. Your upper arms should fall relaxed at your sides. Also when typing, center your keyboard in front of you with your mouse located close to it.

Appropriate posture sitting at a computer

4.Wrist and finger postures: Keep your wrists straight while typing and while using a mouse. Avoid bending your wrists up, down, or to the sides. Type with your hands and wrists floating above the keyboard.(As shown in the picture) Choose a mouse that fits the size of your hand comfortably and is as flat as possible to minimize wrist strain.

5.Minimize eyestrain: Explained earlier in the remedy section for CVS.

6.Take short breaks: Remember, just eating Kit-Kat chocolates wont help ;-).

So improve your sitting posture and remember, a healthy lifestyle can help you perform and enjoy your everyday activities, including the time spent at your computer.Make sure you consider the necessary steps aforementioned every time you crouch in front of your computer or feel pain in your neck.
